Travel

The best way to get around Galicia is to rent a car at one of the airports or using local taxis.

Flying In

If you are flying in, you have different airports to choose from depending where you are coming from:

  1. Vigo (VGO) - 20 mins to Baiona
  2. Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) - 75 mins to Baiona
  3. Oporto(OPO) - 90 mins to Baiona

From the airport you can take a taxi or there are buses available (although check timetables). You can also hire a car at the airport which will give you flexibility to move around and explore the area.

Train

If you are travelling from Madrid, or elsewhere in Spain, you can arrive to the centre of Vigo with the high-speed train.

Car Rental

There are several car rental options, and the taxi services are relatively inexpensive.

Recommendations

Activities

Galicia has its own language, cuisine, culture (bagpipes!), and architecture. We recommend that you take advantage of what it has to offer. The list below is a good start.

Other Cities

The capital of the Pontevedra province is the city of Pontevedra, with nice streets and a church. Vigo is very important as well, industrial city that thrived in shipbuilding and the conserveras. The Citroen factory gives jobs to a great part of the population.

Recommendations

Restaurants and Bars

Galicia is famous for its food and it is the home of Albariño and Ribeiro white wines. We encourage you to explore!

We have listed a few places that Leti's family have enjoyed (for decades!). Additionally, using Google Maps / Foursquare and other apps will have a lot more recommendations.

Baiona

Mercadillo de Sabaris

On Mondays mornings, early afternoons, there is el mercadillo de Sabaris (flea market): just stroll along the different stalls. We love to buy empanadas there, amazing loaves of bread (try the pan de maiz), the famous Galician cheese (Queso de Tetilla) and quince (stall in front of the church, a very big one), coffee liqueur. Stop for a coffee and a pastry at Panaderia Yajoma, Julian Valverde 69, 36393 at Galician prices. All the products are locally sourced. There are plenty of other things like clothes, swimsuits, shoes, etc.

Meson Fidalgo

The Meson Fidalgo, Rua Julian Valverde 79, 36393, is a great option for tapas or dinner.

Main Street of Baiona - bars, cafés, bakeries, ice cream

In Baiona you should try the small tapas bars populating the old part of the village, those small, cobblestoned streets peppering Baiona. On the main street, Avenida Monterreal, you will find all sorts of tempting things like, waffles, ice creams, pastries, burgers, pizzas. And the iconic Churreria Emilin for hot chocolate and churros: a must try.

Nigrán

Taperia O'Monte

Taperia O'Monte, unknown to tourists, is great for trying different types of tortillas and other Galician specialities. Situated on top of a hill, you will have to follow the signposts or use GPS. Great for families, better booking in advance: +34 609804666. They also provide accommodation.

Restaurante Asador Los Abetos

Restaurante Asador Los Abetos, good for beefeaters, open fire grill.

Casa Alberto

A restaurant with stunning views of the Cíes Islands, especially if you get the seat on the terrace. Casa Alberto can be found at: Rua do Torreiro, 1, 36391 Priegue.

Santiago de Compostella

If you are flying to/from Santiago, there is a very good restaurant 1 minute from the airport, Casa Lorenzo, Lavacolla, s/n, 15820 Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña. We like also A Casa da Vina, Rua de San Lazaro, 54, 15703 Santiago de Compostela (closed on Mondays), away from the places near the cathedral, that are overpriced and busy.

Playa America and Playa Patos

Playa America

Get a coffee/food and enjoy the views from La Genuina café. The northern end of the beach has very good places for tapas and food, like El Pescador, Punto e Coma, or JR.

Playa Patos

We love Maui Beach Patos and La Ola (outdoor bar). Also in the Patos area, there are good places to eat: La Piccola Italia pizzeria, Taperia O'Druida, pop up food trucks or great ice creams at Xuntos (there is another one in Playa America).

Can I bring a date?
Please check directly before confirming a +1!

What should I wear?
Gentlemen: we recommend you wear a suit in dark or bluish tones.

Ladies: in reverence for the Sacrament, choose an elegant and respectful dress cut. The protocol indicates that evening weddings are for long or midi dresses. We suggest wearing summery colours, with the exception of white or similar shades.

What is the weather like in Baiona in June?
The weather in Baiona in June is usually warm and sunny. The average temperature is around 20°C (68°F) with highs of 24°C (75°F) and lows of 16°C (61°F). The weather is usually dry with an average of 8 days of rain in the month.

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?
Please have a look at the suggested hotels. There is a large selection of hotels and airbnbs between Baiona and Nigran that you can choose from.

There won't be parking available on the church premises. Street parking near the church may be challenging during the high season, so we recommend using a car park located 5 minutes away: Parking Aral (Google Maps). Make sure you arrive early to allow time for parking and walking to the church.

During the reception, the venue has enough parking for everyone.
